PROMISES PROMISES

 

A LIFE LESSON LEARNED EARLY

the infant does not hear promises

yet 

when breasts and milk bottles

are close

there is expectation

as

the touch of a blanket

and

smell of sympathy

join 

a nursery rhyme

one gets early esperience

of unspoken promises

there may be lies

and 

subterfuge

even at these times

to lay 

the foundations

of recognizing 

identifying

meanings 

and 

feelings of truth

and

empty promises

promises are made

with

or without

intentions deep

to keep

for a day

or a week

children learn

what

and which

and how

promises 

are promised 

during

years of growth

but

the adult

at age ten

or many decades more

may still hope

and fall

for love

for greed

for faith

tackling self

and others

in the process

of promises

mankind

will wake up

at one stage

to offers

and promises 

of elysian fields

to everyone

heroes

in their own way

and

reach out

to pluck 

their own apples
