SUGAR DADDY BECOMING TOXIC

 

SUGAR IS BAD FOR YOU

my dad was neither sweet nor harsh

but he was mostly sour

unhappy 

with the roll of dice

though not a gambler

i have been happy with 

what i was  dealt 

in bridge games

and bridges on the route

though i like sour

tasting it as a Ko 

in games of Go

the more fun 

the more ko

the less sense

the more taste

my family and other

subjects of Gerald Durrell

see me as bitter 

mistaking their senses

and words

due to 

a different

underappreciated sour

I still walk on the path

despite the muscle and joint pain

despite the hurdles 

i sense only as nightmares

epics of adventures

and

familiar 

and unknown

people in epics

that I visit

and observe

and introduce

with or without

a flourish

to 

the crowd of protesters

i attract

and distract
