though many

on a tree

or 

in a design on a carpet

was forbidden

we were told

but ears were blocked

and

eyes searched for more

and the mind gave up

language became linguistics

children

transformed

into anthropologists

phonemes

and graphemes

flooded the 

consciousness

then we were many

praying

and

hoping

for oneness

but with empathy

and harmony

and sympathy

the kinship of the gestalt

all identity lost in the air

and in the water

and in the sands

physical

emotional

and 

illusional
