VISITING DEITIES

 

GODDESSES I KNEW

ishtar was the first

and

ever present one

appearing as inanna 

on occasion

traveling east

to appear

to others

in guise

as wangmu niangniang

and amaterasu

not as Kamadenu

who appeared

to meditating 

believers 

and cows

Men find them 

mysterious

if they find them at all

to recognize

for who they are

i researched, studied, 

rationalized

tried looking from corners of my eyes

and through lenses

of many sizes

and lengths 

and materials

the actual

the real

and the fantasy

not so different

when you try to touch

and feel

and 

then

lose touch

even with 

disappearing memories

self destroying  experiences

vestiges of divinity enjoyed

all too briefly
